Select Tool

Introduction

The Select Tool is used to select and interact with existing elements that the user created in Deta Studio. It allows you to move, resize, edit, or delete Deta Studio mark up and objects without creating new content. The Select Tool is the primary way to manage existing objects in Deta Studio. It enables precise selection, grouping, movement, resizing, and editing of all supported elements within the document.

Step 1: Select and Manage Markups in DETA Studio

To edit, move, or delete markup items you've created in Deta Studio, locate the Select Tool (cursor icon) in the left toolbar and click to activate it, or press V.

Click on any editable element in the PDF—including images, text, rectangles, lines, clouds, freehand markups, dimensions, area measurements, points, and comments. Selected objects are highlighted in blue.

Selection Methods:

• Single selection: Click directly on an object
• Group selection: Click and drag to draw a selection area, or hold Shift and click objects individually. Grouped objects appear within a blue dashed bounding box.

Once selected, you can move markups by dragging them to a new location or delete them using the Delete key.

Step 2: Move or Resize Selected Objects

• Move: Click and drag the selected object or group.
• Resize: Drag the corner handles of the bounding box.

Step 3: Edit or Delete Objects

• Edit: Use the Properties icon on the right side of the screen to adjust settings.
• Delete: Select the object and press Delete (desktop) or tap the trash icon (iPad).
• Right-click menu: Right-click a markup (on a Mac trackpad, click with two fingers or Control-click) to select it and open a menu with Arrange, Cut, Copy, Duplicate, Lock and Delete. Right-clicking a markup that is already part of a selection acts on the whole selection. Right-drag still pans the page.
• Arrange: Where markups overlap, choose which one sits on top. Select it, then pick Bring to front, Bring forward, Send backward or Send to back from the Arrange button in the properties bar, or right-click the markup and open Arrange (on iPad, use the floating action bar). Bring forward and Send backward step past the next markup that overlaps the selection. Keyboard: Ctrl+] / Ctrl+[ to step, Ctrl+Shift+] / Ctrl+Shift+[ for front and back (⌘] / ⌘[ and ⌥⌘] / ⌥⌘[ on Mac). Comments always sit above markups; use Bring to front or Send to back in a comment's ⋯ menu to reorder overlapping comments.
